I am an experienced scuba diver with some experience in underwater photography. I bought this Canon Cameras Housing on a lark, because I had the camera and wanted something small to take along when I wasn't diving for photography but wanted to take some snaps.

*WITH THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS AND CHECKS* I found this Canon Cameras Housing worked and was easy to use. I definitely recommend it.

The warning is:

* MAKE THE PROPER PRE-DIVE CHECKS
* YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN
* GET FLOODING INSURANCE OR DEAL WITH THE CONSEQUENCES

I was advised from the beginning to take a course on underwater camera maintenance and use, and to get flooding insurance. I still accept that despite my best efforts, I'll get flooding. The insurance will protect me. You *cannot* assume that a manufacturer will warranty an underwater housing against leakage. It's not possible. Even a tiny bit of sand on an O-ring can cause a leak, and at 60 feet the leak will let in water at twice atmospheric pressure.

Fancy underwater Canon Cameras Housing for $1000+ cameras are *not* warranted against flooding. Don't expect that a $170 housing will be. Don't blame manufacturers for your complete lack of knowledge and experience in a very specialized photographic discipline that most divers take years to learn.

Get flooding insurance. Learn how to protect your camera. Test the housing. Ask other divers.

The only possible limitation is that the rated depth is only 100 feet. But considering this housing is only $170, and an Ikelite pro-level housing is $500+, this little gem is a great deal.

Since I just started using the Pentax Optio WS80 10MP – Waterproof Digital Camera, I have not yet utilized it to its fullest capacity, but so far I am very pleased. I like the fact that the Pentax Optio WS80 10MP – Waterproof Digital Camera is waterproof so I do not have to worry about using it around water. Also, I like the feature that the zoom lens is encased so the lens does not constantly extend then compact every time you turn it on/off. The 5X optical lens is very sharp and even the digital zoom is quite sharp. Although the manual is thicker than the camera, it comes with a quick guide to let you start taking pictures quickly. I can always read the manual on an as-need basis if necessary.

I have owned a Pentax camera before (Optio S sub-compact)and really liked it also. However, Pentax Optio WS80 10MP – Waterproof Digital Camera is much easier to use and produces very sharp photos. For a little over $200, very well worth the price!

Bought Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 – underwater digital cameras and 8 MB Extreme III card for vacation trip to Florida. I've used Nikon and Sony cameras for 10 years and was looking for a waterproof, durable and reliable camera. Unfortunately the camera is not reliable.

Camera locked up many times during vacation and I had to remove battery to get it to reset. Once I got home I was unable to download pictures into the computer. It also has a very limited battery life.

I use Aperture (Mac) and have about 10,000 photos in my library. Tried recovering the files from both a Mac and PC with no luck. I had to recover each file individually and reset the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 14MP - Underwater Digital Cameras (pulling out the battery) for every failed file. After 5 hour process of recovering files, I was finally able to recover 98 of the 144 pictures taken.
